Flydigi Vader 5 Pro vs Vader 5S: Which Should You Buy?

At first glance, the Flydigi Vader 5S looks like a cheaper version of the Vader 5 Pro.

That is not really how we see it.

Both share much of the same Vader 5 foundation: adjustable-tension Hall Effect sticks, mechanical buttons, dual-mode triggers and plenty of extra inputs.

The difference is what each controller is built for.

The Vader 5S is officially licensed for XBOX, with wired connectivity, native XBOX vibration support and a 3.5mm headset jack.

The Vader 5 Pro V2 is the more flexible controller for PC and multi-platform use, adding wireless, four rear buttons, gyro, macros and broader customisation.

Throughout this comparison, Vader 5 Pro refers to the current Vader 5 Pro V2 sold by Techyin, rather than earlier production units.

Vader 5 Pro vs Vader 5S: Key Differences

The important thing is that the core controls remain very similar.

You are mainly choosing between platform support and additional features, rather than two completely different levels of stick, trigger or button hardware.

XBOX Support Is the Biggest Difference

For XBOX players, this comparison is straightforward.

The Vader 5S is officially licensed for XBOX Series X|S and XBOX One. The Vader 5 Pro is not compatible with XBOX consoles.

The 5S also includes a physical XBOX button, console wake-up support and a 3.5mm headset jack.

There is another difference that is easy to overlook: vibration.

Both controllers have four vibration motors, with motors in the grips and triggers. The difference is how they are used.

The Vader 5S is built around XBOX-native four-motor vibration, including Impulse Trigger feedback in supported games. Separate grip and trigger feedback allows compatible games to communicate more directly through different parts of the controller.

This can be particularly noticeable in games that make good use of trigger feedback, such as racing titles.

The Vader 5 Pro also has dedicated grip and trigger vibration motors, but it does not use the same native XBOX implementation.

We would not claim the Vader 5S feels identical to a first-party XBOX controller in every game. What matters is that its vibration system is designed to work within the native XBOX experience rather than simply adding trigger vibration as an extra effect.

Wired or Wireless?

The Vader 5S is wired only.

At a PC desk, that may not matter. There is no battery to charge, receiver to manage or pairing process.

For an XBOX setup, the included 3-metre cable also gives you reasonable reach.

The Vader 5 Pro supports 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth and USB-C, making it much easier to use across different setups.

If you regularly play from a sofa, move between devices or simply prefer wireless, the Pro has a clear advantage.

For PC gaming, we would normally use its 2.4GHz receiver rather than Bluetooth when responsiveness matters.

Four Rear Buttons vs Two

The Vader 5 Pro has four rear buttons in total — two fixed buttons and two removable paddles.

The Vader 5S has two fixed rear buttons.

If four rear inputs are already part of your control layout, the Pro has the obvious advantage. Otherwise, we would not choose between these controllers on rear-button count alone.

Both also include LM/RM shoulder buttons and C/Z face buttons.

The Core Controls Are Very Similar

This is where the Vader 5S makes a stronger case for itself.

Both controllers use Flydigi's ForceFlex Hall Effect sticks with physical tension adjustment from 40gf to 100gf.

You can adjust the left and right sticks independently, which is useful if you prefer different resistance for movement and aiming.

Both also use ForceSwitch dual-mode triggers.

In analogue mode, you retain progressive trigger travel for racing and other games that use analogue input. Flip the physical switch and the trigger changes to a short microswitch-style action better suited to games where quick activation matters.

Mechanical ABXY buttons and Flydigi's rotary-pivot D-pad are also shared.

So while the Vader 5S loses some of the Pro's additional features, it keeps the adjustable sticks, trigger system and mechanical controls that define the basic Vader 5 experience.

Performance and Software

The Vader 5 Pro can run at up to 1000Hz on PC, while the Vader 5S operates at up to 500Hz on PC.

The Pro has the technical advantage, but we would not choose between them on polling rate alone.

Both are already responsive controllers. In normal use, platform support, wireless connectivity, rear buttons and software features are likely to have a much greater impact on which one suits you.

The software difference matters more.

The Vader 5 Pro uses Flydigi Space Station, with access to remapping, profiles, stick and trigger adjustment, gyro settings, macros and other advanced options.

The Vader 5S uses the separate Space Station for XBOX app, covering button mapping, sticks, triggers, vibration, lighting and profiles.

If macros are already part of your Flydigi setup, the 5S is not a direct replacement for the Vader 5 Pro.

More broadly, software remains one of the less polished parts of the Flydigi experience. There is plenty of useful customisation available, but the interface and overall setup experience can take some getting used to.

We see Space Station as a tool for getting the controller configured the way you want it, rather than a reason to buy the controller on its own.

The hardware is still the stronger part of the package.

Is the Vader 5 Pro Worth Paying More For?

For most PC players, we think it is.

The extra money gets you:

• 2.4GHz and Bluetooth wireless
• four rear buttons instead of two
• macro support
• gyro
• Switch and Switch 2 support
• charging dock compatibility
• broader PC customisation
• up to 1000Hz polling

If several of those features matter to you, the Pro is easy to justify.

If they do not, the gap becomes much smaller.

The Vader 5S retains the adjustable sticks, dual-mode triggers and mechanical controls, while adding something the Pro cannot offer: official XBOX support.

That is why we would not describe it simply as a cut-down Vader 5 Pro.

Which One Should You Buy?

PC and multi-platform: Vader 5 Pro V2.

XBOX: Vader 5S.

For wired PC players, choose based on whether you will actually use the Pro's additional features.
